The Weekly Roundup #4 | Back up and running (kind of)

Hi there!

So it seems as though my heel is on the mend! It’s so weird, it still gets aggravated and flares up, and it’s still tender, but running doesn’t seem to be the thing that’s hurting it so I’m cautiously pressing on. I’ve only run twice this week, the first was 2 miles and the second 3. I can definitely feel it flare up afterwards but overall it doesn’t seem to be getting worse…

The two miles I did at the beginning of the week were really good. I surprised myself by hitting a relatively comfortable 7:40 pace so I was very happy with that. When I did 3 miles on Thursday I was feeling pretty stressed so just went out without a watch, did a route I knew along the estuary and it felt great too.

I’m in two minds about the marathons I’ve got coming up, especially Southampton. I’m tempted to change to do the half instead. When I ran a marathon 2 years ago it was a challenge I took up to raise money for a charity very close to myimg_1900 heart. Now my only motivation is enjoyment and to be honest I don’t particularly enjoy the long runs on my own. I feel like I throw myself into training only to get injured, and that makes me really miserable. I wonder whether to just do the Half Marathon. This is a pace I know I am capable of and actually enjoy running, so surely it makes more sense for me to do that instead?

I am currently loving CrossFit and loving running shorter distances. My favourite races have been 10 milers and half marathons so I’m wondering whether to just do those? I’m still thinking it through!

Speaking of Crimg_1898ossFit, it has been great this week. There were a couple of days I didn’t particularly enjoy but I think it was more to do with the fact that I’ve been a bit down this week as we’re doing some stuff at work over this month that’s not going to be very fun! There were a lot of squats and other booty-building exercises this week which I really liked, and a bit of handstandy upside down time which I also loved. Plus I saw marked improvement in my double unders, though my TTB efforts are still failing miserably! I did also meet Biscuit the latest PI-pup this week too which cheered me up immensely.

Food wise I went crazy at Tesco last weekend and bought so many new treats! I have loved mixing it up this week with falafel pittas, fajitas, chilli and various burgers/bakes from Linda McCartney and Gosh!

I also went to Rabbit, a new(ish) vegan cafe in Exeter for lunch yesterday. It was such delicious food and cake; I can’t wait to go back there again! I had a walnut and quinoa burger, some chocolate cake and even took home a ‘brookie’ (brownie/cookie) for later!

Hope you’ve all had a great week and weekend, posts over the next few weeks might be a bit sporadic as work is about to get rather crazy!

Any advice on my marathon situation would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear you’ve had a bit of a naff week! When’s the deadline for changing to the half? It’s a good race, can definitely recommend it!

Naff, that’s a very good word to describe it! Ooh I don’t know actually hadn’t thought of that! I think I’d just really enjoy the half and it would take the pressure off, especially the day before my birthday I could just enjoy it! xx

I’ve had my place swapped, wahoo! I’m actually really looking forward to it now rather than feeling so worried about missing out on the training! 🙂 xxx
