I know that right now we are going through a globally really bloody tough time. But, if you know me, you know I like to focus on the positive, something that I feel is especially important in our current situation. So in this post, I’m talking about things that I’m enjoying whilst being in lockdown!
Spending time with Lucy
This is cheesy but has to be at the top of the list. I know there are a lot of couples who are separated at the moment, and that must be unimaginably hard. Although we live together, Lucy often works unsociable hours in the military, so sometimes it can feel like we don’t get much quality time. She is less busy at home now, which means we’ve had time to slow down and chill out, and I’m loving it.
So I bought an iPad Pro last year and although I loved it, I found myself doing most of my work on the laptop (Lucy’s laptop actually, sorry Lu!). Now that I have a bit more time, I’ve been using it to get more creative which has led to messing around with an app called Procreate. I’m definitely a creative person, and I’m really really enjoying learning a bit about lettering and other things!
Not sponsored in any way, but I have a subscription to an app called Readly that contains a ton of magazines, including years of back issues, that I can read on my iPad. Again, I don’t really have time normally to read a lot of magazines, but at the moment I’m loving having a little afternoon browse. My favourite is Runner’s World, but there are so many others on there that if I fancy something different, I can just type a keyword in the search bar and try something new, with no extra cost! It’s about £7/£8 off the top of my head, so basically if you would get through a couple of magazines a month, it’s worth it.
I’m currently studying for a sports massage course, and I really like our routine at the moment where I work in the mornings, do some flute practice and phys in the afternoons. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I’m working on the membership, and then Tuesdays and Thursdays are study days. In my last post I talked about taking my career in a slightly different direction which means I’m easing off on all the marketing etc, so I know that once we come out of lockdown, I’ll be able to make time for study (which I’ll be doing lots of over the coming few years!). I love that I can get back to spending time learning rather than feeling constant pressure to be marketing and selling.
Last, but definitely not least, is running. In fact, so “not least” that I’ll be doing a more in depth post on where I’m at with running next. But for anyone who’s known me for a good few years, you’ll know that I used to be a super keen runner, but I then got plantar fasciitis and to be honest, I’ve never really made a proper comeback. I’ll admit, I’m really bad for just jumping back in where I left off, getting a new niggle, then backing off again for a while and getting back on the turbo trainer. But yet again, time is on my side right now! I’m in week 4 of a 7 week couch to 5k plan from Runner’s World, but the biggest difference is that after each one I do runner specific stretch exercises and a proper, timed stretch!
This is big progress for me! The other day my shin played up a bit, so I pushed the program right a day to give me two non-impact days instead of one, and today experienced no pain! Touch wood this is the start of something great again!
So I think I’ll end there, even though there are probably plenty more things I could talk about! I kind of feel like I’ve not been able to talk to everyone properly, because I should just be giving tips and advice about health, and although I will still be doing that, I will just be being me from now on and chatting about everything else I love too!
